Active ingredients in skincare products are responsible for providing the proposed benefits of a specific product. They are available in all types of skincare products, including natural products. The strengths of the active ingredients vary depending on whether you are using over-the-counter or prescription drugs. Active ingredients are important to make skincare products work.

Even as we try our best to follow safety tips during the pandemic, many of us look into what we really need from our skincare products, sparking a renewed appetite for knowing the basic ingredients that drive our favorite formulations, helping us make the right choices. Yet, with so many ingredients to choose from, it can be frustrating to know which ones we really need.

To help with this, here is a full list of trending 2020 beauty and skincare ingredients for you to try:

1. Vitamin C

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is touted to be one of the best anti-aging, ultra-protective ingredients on the market. And it’s also the secret to holding a smooth, even, and radiant complexion as a reliable multi-tasker. There’s a fair chance that vitamin C will help you out from poor skin tone and fine lines to acne marks and general dullness. And while you are possibly obtaining vitamin C in your diet, the most direct way to reap these skincare benefits is to use {serums} and other topical items.

2. Retinol

Retinol is derived from vitamin A and works to decrease the occurrence of fine lines, pigmentation, and even acne by increasing the rate of cell turnover in the skin, along with the development of collagen. Retinoids promote the formation of new skin blood vessels that enhance the color of the skin, leaving a healthy glow.

3. Castor oil

Castor oil

Well, thanks to its versatility. Castor oil, filled with vitamin E, is a must-have ingredient for refilling your skin and helping your hair stay healthy by improving your collagen. Castor oil is also well known for its soothing powers against eczema, dermatitis, rosacea, psoriasis, and keratosis pillaris. If that wasn’t enough, back in ancient Egyptian times, the oil was considered an immune-boosting elixir, and it was believed to have many medicinal properties.

4. Benzoyl peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide acts in your pores to kill acne-causing bacteria. It helps to eliminate sebum cells and dead skin cells which also contribute to breakouts. It is particularly good for inflammatory acne which is normally colonized by bacteria but can often lead to dryness. To avoid this, you can wear safety gloves and mix them with a moisturizer before using them. It is best to combine with a hydrating moisturizer or serum.

5. Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid can maintain a high-water capacity and has the unusual ability to preserve skin moisture. Although our bodies already naturally produce it as we age, we generate less and less, meaning our skin will become dryer and lose elasticity, causing us to grow deep-set wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid can help minimize the appearance of wrinkles when added to the skin and prevent new lines from forming while keeping the skin hydrated and healthy.

6. Squalane

Squalane is excellent for managing the production of oil, supplying only ample moisture to keep the skin clean and safe. The Squalane antioxidants also combat skin damage and free radicals, which can speed up the aging process.

7. Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) that is meant to exfoliate the skin and unclog pores. It penetrates pores once applied and dissolves the bonds between surface skin cells, making it an ideal solution for unwanted blemishes. Salicylic acid can also minimize the secretion of sebum which is known to make the skin oily and shiny and also decrease inflammation.

8. Witch hazel

Witch hazel

Offering both medicinal anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties, when applied topically, this genius botanical will work wonders for the skin and scalp. Witch hazel does much more than it says on the box, from tightening pores, reducing signs of aging, and battling acne, to calming puffy eyes and reducing redness caused by breakouts.

9. Ceramides

Although our bodies produce natural ceramides, the effectiveness is decreased by age and sun exposure and can gradually deplete them, which eventually weakens the barrier of your skin. Dryer, rougher skin, wrinkles, irritation, redness, and visible signs of dehydration are the results. Ceramide-containing skincare products will help to strengthen the barrier of your skin and increase hydration, giving you plumper, smoother, firmer-feeling skin with cool lines and fewer wrinkles.

10. Niacinamide

Niacinamide is a type of vitamin B3 that is known to have to calm and healing properties that are important for breakout care. Extensive research also indicates that niacinamide acts to protect the skin from damage to the environment and encourages the skin to create more hyaluronic acid and collagen. It increases hydration, reduces signs of aging, decreases swollen pores, and skin discoloration significantly.

11. Activated charcoal

Activated charcoal attracts to the surface of the skin bacteria, toxins, chemicals, dirt, and other micro-particles, helping you maintain a perfect complexion and fight against acne. The body does not metabolize, adsorb or ingest charcoal, so it can be used to treat such toxic bites and to clean certain wounds. Activated charcoal powder has been shown to adsorb its own mass of harmful substances thousands of times, making it a common ingredient in facial masks.

12. Lactic acid

Lactic acid

Basically, lactic acid helps to moisturize the skin and make it feel less dry. It can also boost symptoms of aging when you use excessively, so it is advisable to use inadequate proportion. Lactic acid induces the renewal of collagen and can tighten your skin. It removes hyper pigmentation (sun spots or age spots) and performs the roles of softening and smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles.

13. Clay

Clay powders have been used for centuries to remove impurities, excess oil, and leave the skin detoxified, smoother, softer, and brighter looking.

14. Azelaic acid

Azelaic acid is an acid found naturally in grains like barley, wheat, and rye. It has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, making it effective in the treatment of skin conditions such as acne and rosacea. The acid will avoid potential outbreaks and clear the pores of acne-causing bacteria.

15. Alpha arbutin

Alpha arbutus is a brightening factor as it is a hydroquinone derivative, one of the most powerful skin-lightening and spot-fading active ingredients out there. And alpha arbutus is also considered to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, along with its excellent brightening abilities.

16. Peptides

Peptides

Peptides are amino acids that form the building blocks of certain proteins required by the skin, such as collagen and elastin. Using a serum or peptide-containing moisturizer will lead to firmer, younger-looking skin, and maybe even fewer breakouts.

17. Resveratrol

The key advantage of resveratrol is its anti-aging properties due to its superior ability to penetrate the skin barrier, which is why it is gradually being added as an ingredient in skincare products. Resveratrol is typically used in skincare products such as moisturizers, serums, masks, and creams.

18. Algin

Due to its fast water-absorbing capabilities, the cosmetic industry uses this gelling-polyacrylamide as a water binding agent. As a result, algin acts to thicken formulations for moisturizing skincare, offering a more natural texture that is spreadable.

19. Zinc oxides

For good purposes, zinc oxide is the main ingredient in most mineral sunscreens. In addition to providing our skin with immediate, natural, and healthy protection, zinc may provide other benefits to improve our natural summer glow.

20. Aloe vera

Aloe Vera is a beautiful plant that has been producing results for thousands of years. For example, many people say it has helped them with acne, burns, dry skin, psoriasis, and dandruff. The gel from Aloe vera can also be added to the skin to avoid wrinkles and lines.
